Social Security Number Verification
A social security number verification is primarily used as an investigative tool.
The SSN verification can reveal additional information about the applicant
such as: names used, address history, issued date and state the number was issued.
This service is highly recommended because it often provides names and
counties not disclosed by the applicant.
Scope: Varies.
Turnaround time (average): 1 Business Day.
Type of Source: Information primarily comes from a Consumer Reporting
Agency such as TransUnion, Experian or Equifax. Most of the information is obtained from the “credit header”. The
credit header stores information associated with credit transactions, loans and bill payments.
The information is obtained from a Consumer Credit Agency, not the Social Security Administration.
Because SSN Verifications are intended to be used as an investigative tool,
no employment decision should be made based solely on the information received.
Required Information:
- Name
- Date of Birth (DOB)
- Social Security Number
Method: The name,
address and SSN are searched in a credit bureaus database. The information returned
comes from the “credit header”. It is possible to receive a “no hit” or “no information found”
from the search if the applicant has not established credit or business transactions.
Information may also be unavailable if the consumer has placed a freeze on the
release of information.
